You accept UPI payments. Your customers want to pay. But every time someone has to manually type your VPA — Virtual Payment Address — there is a risk of a wrong character, a failed transaction, and a lost payment.
The fix is a UPI QR code. One scan. Correct VPA. Payment done.
QRGenLabs generates UPI QR codes free — no account, no commission, no subscription.
What is a UPI QR code?
A UPI QR code encodes your UPI ID (VPA) using the standardised upi://pay deep-link protocol defined by NPCI — the National Payments Corporation of India. Every UPI-certified app in India reads this protocol natively.
When a customer scans your QR with any UPI app — GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, or their bank's app — it resolves your VPA automatically, displays your registered merchant name for verification, and opens the payment screen. The customer enters their UPI PIN and the payment is done.
No typing. No VPA errors. No failed transactions.
The problem UPI QR codes solve
Typing a VPA under real-world conditions is error-prone. Consider a vendor at a stall in SP Road Bengaluru, a freelancer in Pune sending invoice via WhatsApp, or a home bakery in Kochi sharing their UPI ID on Instagram.
In each case, the customer reads the VPA and types it manually. One wrong character — a transposed digit, a missed dot, a wrong bank handle — and the payment fails silently or goes to the wrong account.
Common VPA entry errors that UPI QR codes eliminate:
-
ravi.shop@okaxistyped asravi.shoop@okaxis— extra letter -
payments@ybltyped aspayment@ybl— missing 's' -
name@okhdfcbanktyped asname@okhdfc— incomplete handle -
store.123@paytmtyped asstore123@paytm— missing dot
A QR code removes every one of these error points permanently.
Who needs a UPI QR code in India
Small and micro businesses
Street vendors in Mumbai, kirana stores in Delhi NCR, auto mechanics in Hyderabad, tailors in Surat, medical shops in Chennai — any business accepting UPI payments benefits from a QR code that removes VPA entry entirely.
Freelancers and service professionals
Designers in Bengaluru, tutors in Pune, photographers in Jaipur, consultants in Gurgaon — sharing a UPI QR in WhatsApp, email, or on an invoice eliminates the "invalid VPA" problem that delays payments.
Home businesses and D2C sellers
Home bakers in Kochi, handmade product sellers in Ahmedabad, cloud kitchen operators in Noida — Instagram DMs and WhatsApp orders often end in a payment loop of "I got invalid VPA" messages. A UPI QR image shared directly in chat removes the problem.
Events and markets
Pop-up markets in Mumbai, craft fairs in Bengaluru, food festivals in Hyderabad — high-volume, fast transaction environments where every second of payment friction matters. A laminated QR at the stall processes payments faster than VPA entry every time.
How to create a free UPI QR code on QRGenLabs
- Go to QRGenLabs
- Select the UPI QR type from the generator
- Enter your UPI ID — for example
shopname@okaxisorname@ybl - Enter your merchant display name — this appears on the customer's payment confirmation screen
- Optionally add a fixed amount — useful for fixed-price products, subscriptions, or event tickets
- Customise the design — add your business logo, choose colours
- Export as PNG for digital sharing or SVG for laminated print use
No account required for a static UPI QR. No commission on payments. No watermark. Free forever.
Fixed amount vs open amount — which to use
Open amount QR — the customer enters the payment amount themselves. Right for most vendors, service providers, and any business with variable transaction values. One QR handles everything.
Fixed amount QR — the payment amount is pre-encoded in the QR. The customer scans and sees the amount pre-filled on their payment screen. Right for:
- Fixed-price product stalls
- Single-tier subscription or membership fees
- Event entry fees at concerts, workshops, or festivals
- Tiffin subscription services at a flat monthly rate
QRGenLabs supports both configurations on the same generator.
Static UPI QR — why it is the right choice for most use cases
A static UPI QR encodes your upi://pay URI directly into the QR matrix. No server. No redirect. No subscription dependency.
It works entirely offline — which matters in SP Road Bengaluru, Chandni Chowk Delhi, Lamington Road Mumbai, and Ritchie Street Chennai where mobile data can be patchy during peak hours.
It never expires. A QR code you generate today and laminate for your stall counter will still scan correctly in 2028 without any action on your part.
This is the critical difference from platforms that generate dynamic QR codes on a free trial — when the trial ends, the QR stops working. A static QR from QRGenLabs has no such dependency.
UPI apps supported — full compatibility
A UPI QR code generated on QRGenLabs using the NPCI upi://pay protocol works with every certified UPI app in India:
- Google Pay (GPay) — scan via the app or native camera
- PhonePe — scan from home screen
- Paytm — scan from dashboard
- BHIM — the NPCI reference UPI app
- Amazon Pay — scan and pay
- WhatsApp Pay — camera scan supported
- All bank UPI apps — SBI YONO, HDFC MobileBanking, ICICI iMobile, Axis Mobile, Kotak 811, and every other bank app with UPI
No app-specific QR codes needed. One QR works for every customer, regardless of their bank or UPI app preference.
Where to place your UPI QR code
Physical placements
- Counter display — laminated A5 or A4 card at eye level at the payment point
- Stall banner — printed large format for outdoor markets and fairs
- Product packaging insert — for D2C businesses shipping across India
- Invoice and delivery notes — for B2B vendors and service providers
- Restaurant table tent — for quick-service, cafe, and food stall payments
Digital placements
- WhatsApp Status and pinned messages for regular customers
- Instagram bio and story highlights for D2C and home businesses
- Email signature for freelancers invoicing clients
- PDF invoices — QR embedded in the payment section
- Website checkout page — for brands combining online presence with UPI payments
UPI QR code and GST — what business owners need to know
A UPI QR code is a payment tool, not a tax document. It processes payment. Your GST obligations — invoicing, filing, input tax credit — remain independent of the payment method.
For registered GST businesses in India, UPI payments are valid and auditable. The transaction ID generated by every UPI payment serves as a payment reference that can be linked to your GST invoice for that transaction.
QRGenLabs does not process or store transaction data — the payment flows directly between the customer's UPI app and your registered bank account through the NPCI infrastructure.
